You don't see so many headlines about Second Life any longer. But that doesn't mean that smart projects and innovations have halted. As proof, I give you
According to the site:
“Jack the Pelican Presents Brooklyn is Watching (sponsored by Popcha!) is a conceptual art project by Jay Van Buren about “cultural colonialism,” marketing, the attention economy, critique, dialog, power-relationships, and the difference between potential and actual with four parts spanning the virtual, 3d space of Second Life, the two dimensional “traditional” internet and the ultimate hipster mothership, williamsburg brooklyn. It is an artwork, an entertainment product, a venue for critical dialog and a marketing vehicle. It also will be a hell of a lot of fun.”
I think this is smart, and I am excited to take a trip out to the gallery. People can interact with Brooklyn is Watching in a plethora of ways. For New Yorkers, a trip to the gallery will present an opportunity to pilot an avatar of a giant eyeball (how Lord of the Rings… minus the ironic trucker hat) and see the stage that Jack the Pelican has set up on a large screen.
On the other side of existence, Second Life citizens, can fly to the tower where the eyeball lives, and perform on a stage. Dance. Sing. Create art.
And then there’s the blog, for those not in Second Life, and not going to the gallery presently. Here are posted the most interesting projects and performances left on the eyeball’s stage. Check it out for yourself at
Brooklyn is Burning.
So, whether you want to take the subway in your first life to the gallery, fly to the tower and stage in your Second Life, or get a smattering of both via the blog, Brooklyn is Watching has you covered.
Check it out now.
