Greenbuild: Notes from afar

I thought, though, that it would be good to do a round-up from an outside perspective. Surprisingly with trade shows, you can get a great deal of information without attending.

First, check out this video on the basics of LEED standards. This mentions some smart projects that are using LEED from the architect, owner, and developer viewpoints. This gives the background to understand why Clinton, in his keynote, made greening the education system such a priority for his Climate Action Foundation. I love the idea of how this is the largest economic opportunity since WW II in the form of sustainability technology.

Following the long list of ongoing commentary at the show here, I learned about what was happening on the show floor and also about the Sustainable Sites Initiative. This is of interest for the landscaping side, and how to set guidelines to make that more sustainable. Also about Lifecycle Deceleration: this is important for figuring out how to measure the impact a material or product may have from start to finish.
