Verizon has PULLED the ad.
At the time of
my first post (7/22), Verizon had publicly stated it would not remove the ad, describing it as "fictional". On Thursday, July 24,
PETA launched an
action alert campaign, lobbying
Verizon to remove the "cruel pit bull ad" After Verizon's CEO Ivan Seidenberg received 7,000 emails through PETA's campaign, the company succumbed to pressure and pulled the spot.
Final Score: PETA 1, Verizon 0

I can't believe it! Well, never doubt the power of the people. 7,000 emails is a lot of emails. Once again - the power of the internet and organizing like-minded individuals.
Next up: Playing card enthusiasts protest en masse against the negative rap the Batman movie gives to Jokers, forcing WB to edit the villain out of the film.
Really folks? It's a commercial. Everyone's afraid of pitbulls anyway.
This just gets me angry.

As long as they're not portraying cruelty to animals, I think it's well within artistic expression to show a guard dog doing it's job. And we all know that if they had shown pit bulls as friendly and approachable then they would have been sued when someone tried to pet one and got bitten.
